Indian Diaspora Day was celebrated by the Consulate General of India in Vancouver on Saturday, March 15, 2025. Vancouver Indian Community members attended the event in big numbers.
This event followed the successful 18th edition of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, which was held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, from January 8-10, 2025, where eighteen community members from Western Canada participated. While such conferences are not always accessible to everyone, it is crucial for our community to unite on a common platform to engage in meaningful dialogue, reaffirm India’s rich heritage, and explore the important role Indian diaspora plays in strengthening the ties between India and Canada.

The evening included speeches from the Consul General and Chief Guest Mr. Raj Chauhan. The Diaspora Day event featured two sessions focused on India and Canada’s cultural and economic relations. These sessions were followed by a dinner, which a valuable opportunity for networking and continued conversations. It proved to be an insightful and engaging evening for the Vancouver Indian Diaspora.
The substantial Indian diaspora in Canada, comprising about 3% of the Canadian population, plays a crucial role in maintaining people-to-people ties and facilitating business and cultural exchanges. It is far more important than ever to make India-Canada ties stronger which can be built on mutual respect & benefits.
