5th International Day Of Yoga (IDY) was celebrated on 21st June 2019 at the scenic David Lam Park next to the waterfront. The event was organized by Consulate General of India (CGI) Vancouver in partnership with India Cultural Association (ICA) Of Vancouver, BC and the Gathering Place Community Centre.
Hon’ble Minister Jinny Sims inaugurated the event while Consul General Ms Abhilasha Joshi and Mr Neeraj Kumar, President ICA welcomed the gathering. The event was attended by all ages of people. There were people as young as 12 years and people close to 70 years.

Yoga instructors Kiran Rampuri and Tarana Kaur demonstrated the Common Yoga Protocol and led the yoga session. The yoga session was accompanied by the soothing sounds of the sitar played by Ms Anju Bedi.
MC Vasundhara Rawat anchored the evening while Consul Manjish Grover delivered the Vote of Thanks.

The well attended yoga event concluded with vegetarian refreshments. Celebrations continued until sunset with the summer solstice parade.
The United Nations declared 21 June as International Day of Yoga after a resolution presented by India and co-sponsored by 177 countries, including Canada. Yoga is now well recognised in the entire world as a holistic discipline for physical, spiritual and mental well-being. The IDY has helped people across the world to come together, celebrate, and experience the happiness of this ancient practice of India.
